FELSTED OFFC vs. Felsted 1st XI 04.03.18

The Old Felstedian Football Club began their 2018 with a fixture against a youthful Felsted School side. The brand-new kit was handed out in the Pavilion, with some players under-estimating their lack of exercise since leaving the School to pastures new. OFFC had some players pull out due to unforeseen consequences, which meant large numbers of the squad had to play in unfamiliar positions.

Despite this, OFFC started brightly in the first half, taking advantage of the wide areas, but were unable to break the deadlock despite a half-chance from Parradine and another from Sexton. Just before half a looping back-post cross evaded the OFFC defence to fall to the omnipresent 1st XI overlap to put the School side one goal to the good at Half-Time.

Spectators in the freezing conditions were rewarded at half time for their commitment after a significant amount of Danish pastries were left over from an unattended book club session in Aroma.

The 1st XI were rewarded for their second goal which seemed dubiously offside, although this would not have affected the final score. OFFC continued to look dangerous, keeping possession well, but ultimately found it difficult to fashion clear-cut chances. Flynn however, the fittest of the team, topped a fine performance at the heart of the midfield with a 25-yard volley that slashed into the top right hand corner.

Following this, the 1st XI added to their scoreline, the post-Felsted regime of the squad, and lack of substitutes, took the intensity out of OFFC. The 1st XI boasted some impressive talent, which is promising for OFFC’s future intake.

The game was played in terrific spirit, and acts a timely reminder to OFFC that they will need to get in shape to beat the Common Room, again, in March for their King Cup clash.
